Oura Launches its New Smart Ring, Oura Ring 4

Finnish digital health technology company Oura Health has announced the launch of its new smart ring, Oura Ring 4.

According to the company, this smart device features a new design, as it has become thinner and more comfortable for the user when wearing it for long periods, especially with the improved design of the sensors and their integration into the ring instead of their prominent design in the previous version.

The Oura Ring 4 includes a new technology developed by the company internally called “Smart Sensing”, which the company says improves tracking accuracy by adapting to “each user’s unique finger physiology”, and this technology combines the company’s algorithm and high-precision sensors.

According to a research study conducted by the company, the improved sensor technology in the Oura Ring 4 can improve the accuracy of measuring blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) at night by up to 30%, track the respiratory distress index (BDI) with 15% better accuracy, and reduce the gaps in heart rate tracking by 7% during the day and 31% at night.

The Oura Ring 4 will retail for $350 and will come in six colors, including silver, gold, silver, and black. Compared to the previous version, the Oura Ring 3, the new generation is available in additional sizes.

The company has begun accepting pre-orders for the ring, with plans to launch this October.

It is worth noting that using some of the features in the ring requires a paid subscription of $ 6 per month or $ 70 per year.

In a related context, the company announced a redesign of its application that controls the smart ring.

According to the company, its new application provides a simplified navigation experience with 3 tabs on the main screen: “Today”, “Vital Signs”, and “My Health”.

The application contains an automatic activity detection feature, with support for more than 40 different activities, in addition to automatic heart rate detection, and stress detection capabilities.

The detailed specs mention that the gen 4 ring can measure "heart rate variability 24/7". From what I could gather, gen 3 only measures HRV at night

Oura launched a new experimental program for Android users called Oura Labs, which was previously available on iOS, and this program allows users to test unannounced features and provide their feedback to the company.
